AeroPress: The Cult-Favorite Brewer That Does Everything
The AeroPress looks like a science experiment and brews like a dream. Invented by a frisbee engineer in 2005, it’s become the most versatile brewer in existence — espresso-style shots, clean filtered coffee, cold brew concentrate, all from a $35 plastic tube.
What You Need
- AeroPress + paper or metal filter
- Fine to medium-fine ground coffee
- Hot water (175-205°F depending on method)
- Timer + stirrer
The Standard Method
Ratio: 15g coffee to 200g water for a single cup.
- Insert filter and rinse with hot water
- Add coffee — fine grind for strong, medium for balanced
- Pour water (200°F) and stir 3 times
- Insert plunger to create a seal (prevents dripping)
- Wait 1 minute
- Press steadily for 20-30 seconds. Stop when you hear a hiss
The Inverted Method
Flip the AeroPress upside down for full immersion (like a tiny French press). Add coffee, add water, steep 2 minutes, then flip and press. This gives you more control over steep time and a fuller body.
Why Coffee People Love It
The AeroPress brews clean but full-flavored coffee in under 2 minutes. Pressure extraction pulls flavors that gravity alone misses. It’s also virtually unbreakable and travels anywhere.
Best Beans for AeroPress
Everything works, but light-to-medium roasts with complex flavors really shine. Ethiopian and Guatemalan single origins are exceptional. Browse our single origins or join the club for fresh beans every month.
